Sean D. Hurley Obtains Win in Will County Circuit Court

Sean D. Hurley won summary judgment in favor of Lewis University in the Will County Circuit Court. At issue was whether Lewis University owed a duty of care to its adult student while that student was engaged in an extracurricular volunteer activity away from campus. The student learned of the volunteer event from a Lewis employee and Lewis provided a vehicle for the plaintiff and other students to transport themselves to the event. Mr. Hurley presented oral argument on the motion in October 2021 and the Court ultimately agreed that, absent any requirement from Lewis to attend the event, Lewis University did not owe a duty to the plaintiff while she was engaged in an off-campus volunteer activity.
