Mark Kimzey presented at the Metropolitan Township Association‘s Annual Township Symposium on September 28, 2023, in Bartlett, Illinois. In the first presentation, titled “Advanced Topics in Township Foundations,” Mark provided an overview of relevant federal and state laws, including the recent amendments of Public Act 103-0025, and explored advanced topics related to corporate governance, legal compliance, and conflicts of interest, with a focus on practical considerations and best practices for township foundations to diminish legal risks and protect their operations. In the second presentation, titled “First Amendment Audits and Other Legal Hot Topics,” Mark explored pressing legal issues confronting townships today, including First Amendment audits, general assistance spending, mental health boards, and paid leave for all, to provide township officials an opportunity to stay up-to-date with the latest legal developments, learn best practices, and ensure your township is well-prepared to navigate these crucial legal matters.
