Today, we celebrate the Feast of Saint Mary Magdalene, honoring the faithful disciple who was the first witness to the Resurrection of Jesus Christ and the first to proclaim the Good News. For her unique role in salvation history, the Church has long recognized her as the "Apostle to the Apostles." We give thanks to Pope Francis who, in 2016, moved this day from a Memorial to a Feast to make this honor of Saint Mary Magdalene equivalent to the other apostles. In doing so, Pope Francis highlighted the dignity of women, the role of evangelization, and the depth of divine mercy.
Saint Mary Magdalene's steadfast faith, devotion to her Lord, and faithful witness continue to serve as an example for all. The Saint’s life reminds us that the hope of the Resurrection is at the heart of the Gospel and that each of us is called to bear faithful witness to Christ in our daily lives by serving others.
We wish all who celebrate a joyful and blessed Feast Day. Saint Mary Magdalene, pray for us!
