Black Catholic History Month

As we close out the first week of November, we want to take a moment to recognize Black Catholic History Month and the generations of individuals whose faith, courage, and service have helped shape the Catholic Church.

Established in 1990 by the National Black Catholic Clergy Caucus, this month is an opportunity to honor stories that deserve to be remembered and shared. Stories of priests who persevered despite being denied opportunities to pursue their calling, religious sisters who opened doors through education, and leaders whose dedication strengthened communities for generations to come.

At Airdo Werwas, our work alongside religious communities and Catholic institutions has given us a deep appreciation for the people behind these missions. Their histories remind us that the institutions we serve today were built through extraordinary faith, sacrifice, and a commitment to something greater than oneself.

Each Friday throughout November, we'll be sharing the story of an individual whose life left a lasting mark on the Church. We hope you'll join us in celebrating their legacies and reflecting on the lessons they continue to offer us today.
