Today, Member Mark J. Kimzey is presenting at the Township Officials of Cook County (TOCC) Annual Conference as part of the panel discussion, "New Laws Facing Townships."
The session will provide township officials with an update on the recent legislative session, including key measures affecting townships, what legislation passed, and what proposals did not advance.
The discussion will also explore several important issues currently facing local governments, including the role townships can play in addressing affordable housing needs and the legal considerations surrounding township-supported housing initiatives; best practices for the responsible use of artificial intelligence, including implementing safeguards and AI policies; the benefits of ethics, whistleblower, fraud awareness, and fraud prevention training for employees and elected officials; and the advantages and challenges associated with structuring food pantry operations through a charitable foundation or a standalone 501(c)(3) organization.
As legal counsel to townships and local governmental entities throughout Illinois, Airdo Werwas is committed to helping public officials navigate emerging legal and operational challenges. We are proud of Mark's continued leadership in sharing practical guidance and helping township officials stay informed on issues that impact their communities.
Thank you to the Township Officials of Cook County for hosting another outstanding conference and for providing a forum for meaningful discussion on the future of township government.
