On October 4, Mollie Werwas and Dorrie Seyfried, VP of Risk Management Services, spoke at the LeadingAge Illinois Senior Living Conference.  Their presentation, entitled, “Incident Investigation: What To Do and How To Do It from a Legal Perspective,” focused on the unique needs of assisted living, supportive living, and independent living facilities when investigating resident incidents.  Mollie and Dorrie addressed issues such as why incidents must be investigated, how to conduct an investigation for use in later litigation, what documentation to create or gather, and what evidence to preserve.  They also addressed the need for facilities to be proactive in anticipating potential incidents, training staff members, communicating with families and residents about services that the facility provides to reduce risk, and similar issues.
