Matthew J. Walters

Senior Counsel

Matthew J. Walters is a seasoned litigator and counselor who focuses his practice on representing local governments in a broad range of matters. He has represented clients ranging from single-building school districts to some of the largest public entities in the country and uses that experience to help his clients achieve their goals.

Mr. Walters has represented clients in state and federal courts and various administrative bodies. He has litigated cases at the trial and appellate levels involving personal injury, Freedom of Information Act, employment, and civil rights claims.

In addition to his litigation, Mr. Walters is experienced counseling clients on their unique needs as local government entities. He advises clients on FMLA, employment, labor, Freedom of Information Act, Open Meetings Act, and general policy matters. He has counseled clients regarding all aspects of construction projects from bid specifications and negotiation to resolving and litigating disputes over defects and delays. He has also represented public taxing bodies on property tax appeals and disputes.

Outside of his practice, Mr. Walters has also taught courses on legal writing and drafting at DePaul University College of Law.
