Mollie and Michael discussed best practices for drafting policies and procedures for skilled care facilities in a presentation entitled, “Facility Policies: Drafting and Implementing Policies and Procedures for Long Term Care Facilities.” Topics discussed included the legal requirements for policies and how well-drafted policies can help protect a facility when defending a lawsuit. They also presented a seminar, “How to Win a Wound Care Case,” and provided conference attendees with education on practical issues relating to wound care, file documentation, implementing appropriate wound care policies and procedures, and other strategies for the defense of wound cases. Mollie and Michael also discussed best practices for skilled care facilities interacting with families of residents in a presentation entitled, “Family Matters: How to Best Interact with Residents’ Families from a Legal Perspective.” Topics discussed included answering families’ questions and concerns, reporting changes of a resident’s condition to family members, and documenting discussions with family members.
