Michael Airdo and Mark Kimzey presented at the Metropolitan Township Association‘s General Assistance Training Seminar on October 25, 2023, in Bartlett, Illinois. Traditionally, General Assistance has been the program of “last resort.” Effective January 1, 2024, Public Act 103-0192 will significantly expand the scope of services that townships may provide under General Assistance programs. It will also implement changes to eligibility requirements for immigrants and non-citizens, as well as for persons who have been convicted of drug-related felonies. In this session, Michael and Mark provided an in-depth discussion of these new amendments with a focus on practical considerations to ensure that townships are well-prepared to navigate these important changes to the Township and Public Aid Codes.
