Michael A. Airdo and Mollie Werwas presented an Educational Session at the Resource Center for Religious Institutes’ National Conference, held in Dallas, Texas, on October 5, 2022.  The presentation entitled, “Fiduciary Duties of Members of Religious Institutes,” discussed various legal considerations for members of religious institutes who also hold governance roles in their civilly incorporated institutes or apostolates. Topics discussed included the benefits and potential detriments associated with civil incorporation, the fiduciary duties of corporate members and directors, best practices for members of religious institutes in simultaneously adhering to their civil and canonical responsibilities, and how members of religious institutes can take action today to protect the future of their ministries.
