Jacob S. Sauter concentrates his practice on local government and transactional matters, advising municipalities, Townships, and other public bodies on a broad range of legal and governance issues.
Jacob assists local government boards and committees in conducting meetings that comply with all procedural, statutory, and due process requirements. His practice involves drafting, reviewing, and interpreting ordinances, resolutions, intergovernmental agreements, and a wide range of contracts. He also counsels public officials on developing and implementing effective policies, procedures, and governance protocols.
Before joining the firm as an attorney, Jacob developed a strong foundation in both litigation and transactional practice. He clerked at a boutique firm in Chicago, where he assisted in managing real estate and corporate transactions by reviewing and drafting contracts and conducting due diligence. His prior experience as a Law Clerk at the Cook County Public Defender’s Homicide Task Force honed his legal research and case preparation skills in high-stakes criminal matters. Jacob also gained exposure to the intersection of law and policy through his work as an intern at the Lansing City Attorney’s Office and as a registered lobbyist with a government relations firm in Michigan.
Jacob earned his J.D. from DePaul University College of Law, where he was a member of the DePaul Law Review. He also holds a B.A. in Political Science Prelaw from Michigan State University, where he was a Division I student-athlete on the swim team.
