Recognizing Sister Susan Durkin, OSU, WRAC

As we celebrate Women’s History Month we reflect on the extraordinary legacy of Catholic sisters whose ministries have shaped education, healthcare, social services, and faith communities across the United States for generations.

We offer special recognition to Sister Susan Durkin, OSU, Executive Director and co-founder of the Women Religious Archives Collaborative (WRAC). Throughout her ministry — as a classroom teacher, servant leader alongside families affected by HIV/AIDS, and President of the Ursuline Sisters of Cleveland — Sister Susan has consistently answered the call to serve where the need is greatest.

Today, she leads WRAC’s national effort to preserve and share the history of women religious by building a heritage center in Cleveland that will safeguard the archives of dozens of congregations. Through research, exhibits, and educational programming, her work ensures that the stories, sacrifices, and contributions of Catholic sisters remain accessible and alive for future generations.

Sister Susan’s leadership reflects both reverence for the past and vision for the future — helping to protect a legacy that continues to educate, inspire, and strengthen communities across the country.
