As we observe Women’s History Month and Catholic Sisters Week, we are honored to recognize Sister Susan Sanders, RSM, Institute President of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas.
Sister Sue leads with clarity, conviction, and a deep love for the Mercy mission. Her lifelong dedication to education, public policy, and mission integration reflects a woman who listens carefully, responds thoughtfully, and remains steadfast in her commitment to justice.
From helping found the McAuley Institute to serving in leadership within the Sisters of Mercy and Catholic higher education, Sister Sue has consistently worked to ensure that faith is lived through action. Those who work alongside her know her leadership is grounded not only in experience, but in compassion and a genuine concern for the communities she serves.
During this special week honoring women religious, we celebrate Sister Sue’s witness and the steady guidance she offers. It is a privilege to support her and the Sisters of Mercy in their continued work for a more just and merciful world. We are blessed to be able to work with her, and doubly blessed to be able to call her a friend.
