During Women’s History Month and Catholic Sisters Week, we recognize the Congregation of Jesus and the women who continue to carry forward its mission in the spirit of Mary Ward.
Founded on a commitment to freedom, justice, and sincerity, the Congregation of Jesus serves God’s people through education, pastoral care, and social ministry in the United States and around the world. Their legacy of responding to the needs of the times remains both relevant and inspiring.
We would like to honor Sister Barb Nelson, CJ, and Sister Connie Steffan, CJ, whose lives of service reflect this mission in action.
Sister Barb has dedicated decades to Catholic education and leadership, serving as teacher, principal, Regional Superior, and Regional Treasurer. Her steady stewardship and commitment to peace and justice demonstrates thoughtful, faithful leadership across generations.
Sister Connie has served in education, congregational leadership, and the care of her community’s facilities, and now continues her ministry as assistant treasurer for the Region. Her involvement in religious education for adults with special needs reflects her deep commitment to inclusion and compassionate service.
Through their leadership and faithful witness, Sister Barb and Sister Connie embody the Congregation’s enduring dedication to faith, community, and service. It is a privilege to recognize their contributions and to support the ongoing mission of the Congregation of Jesus.
