Today, we pause to honor the life and legacy of Sister Jean (Dolores Jean Schmidt, BVM), who passed away on October 9, 2025, at the age of 106.
For more than six decades, Sister Jean served the Loyola University Chicago community as educator, spiritual guide, and beloved chaplain of the men’s basketball team. Her presence on and off the court, her prayers, her warmth, and her encouragement touched the lives of countless students, faculty, athletes, and fans.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Sisters of Charity, BVM, the Loyola community, and all who were blessed to know her. May her spirit continue to inspire us to serve with compassion, integrity, and hope.
