Recognizing the Sisters of St. Casimir of Chicago

Women’s History Month and Catholic Sisters Week provide a meaningful opportunity to recognize the Sisters of St. Casimir of Chicago and the women who continue their legacy of faith and service.

Founded in 1907 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, by Venerable Maria Kaupas, the Sisters of St. Casimir were established to sustain the faith of Lithuanian immigrants and to welcome and care for all who became part of their communities. That spirit of hospitality and devotion remains central to their mission today.

We honor Sister Immaculata Wendt, SSC, for her decades of dedicated service to the congregation and the broader Chicago community. Through her leadership, advocacy, and community engagement, she has advanced the Sisters’ mission of education and outreach, ensuring their presence continues to meet the evolving needs of those they serve.

We also recognize Sister Elizabeth Ann Yocius, SSC, whose governance and leadership within the congregation have helped strengthen its unity and mission. Her work reflects a deep commitment to charity, collaboration, and the well-being of her Sisters, sustaining the values and traditions that define the Sisters of St. Casimir.

We are proud to recognize Sister Immaculata and Sister Elizabeth, whose faithful leadership continues to carry forward a legacy rooted in service, welcome, and unwavering devotion.
